MPF Noise Assessment Report accompanying information & Public meeting presentation
MEMORIAL PLAYING FIELD NOISE ASSESSMENT FOR
PROPOSED SKATEBOARD FACILITY
Steyning Parish Council is considering installing a small, below-ground, concrete skateboard park in the Memorial Playing Field (MPF) approximately where the existing tarmac basketball court is situated – the facility will be similar in length but a little wider.
The Parish Council wishes to ensure that the potential noise from such a skateboarding facility is within accepted guidelines, to minimise any impact on residents surrounding the MPF. We have therefore commissioned a sound survey which is attached.
In reading this you should be aware thattheresults shown are:
(a) predicted calculations based on a previous installation used as a reference by the consultants and,
(b) calculated without sound mitigation – to reduce the propagation of sound from a noise source, by means of earth bundings and/or sound barriers. (Earth bundings are mounds of earth covered in grass that absorb sound).
In addition to the noise assessment members of the Parish Council have visited and researched other skateboard parks. Following this research the Council believe that the noise resulting from a skateboard facility in the MPF could be significantly below those shown in the noise assessment survey and, well within accepted guidelines. This could be achieved through using the latest skateboarding surface technology and sound absorbing earth bundings.
The Council has undertaken its researches to ensure a fair balance between the perceived need for such a facility and its wish to respect the privacy and amenity of the houses surrounding MPF.
This noise assessment is only the first step in the process of assessments, planning and consultation that may result in the installation of a skateboard facility that will enhance the facilities for the youth of the Town and cause minimal effect to local residents.

Rampion Offshore Wind Farm Consultation
E.ON is developing a proposal for an offshore wind farm on a site 13-23km off the Sussex coast, capable of generating electricity for around 450,000 homes each year. Twelve exhibitions will be held in coastal towns and rural areas near the proposed cable route as part of a formal consultation from February to April 2012.
