Parish Council Commitments
Appoint 3 Councillors to the Joint Parishes Climate Action Group who will also represent Steyning on the Horsham Parish and Neighbourhood Climate Action Network.
Ensure Climate actions are a standing item at each Full Council meeting, through updates from the Joint Parishes Climate Action Group.
Include a Climate action page on the Parish Council website.
Actively seek green energy suppliers for Parish premises and maximise their use of local renewable energy (e.g. solar panels and heat pumps).
Ensure Parish buildings are well insulated to reduce energy use and have LED lighting and adjustable heating controls.
Minimise waste from parish premises by reducing unnecessary printing and consumables.
Ensure that the Parish Council uses ethical banking.
Scrutinise local plans for carbon impact by adopting local green planning guidance checklists.
Sign up Parish Council green spaces to the Weald to Waves project.

- Community survey to identify key priorities
- BN44 Repair Café (monthly)
- Pop up plastic recycling not currently handled by WSCC
- Twice weekly Community Fridge
- Home energy advice sessions (incl. Vintage Years & Upper Beeding Hub)
- Magazine articles promoting climate improvements
- Green Day at Steyning Festival
- Climate demonstrations & nature film viewings
- Monthly public climate forum
Tree & Orchard Projects:
Steyning for Trees and community orchards promote biodiversity and tree/hedgerow health benefits.
Celebrating Local Nature:
Schemes at Steyning Downland, Abbey Road, Bramber Brooks, community orchards—and the South Downs National Park—all sequester carbon and benefit community wellbeing.
