There is often confusion over what community services are provided by the Parish Council and it is important to know who to contact if there are problems. Listed below are those community services that are provided by the Parish Council and those by either Horsham District Council or West Sussex County Council.
Under ‘Links’ you will find all the useful telephone numbers – from household bin collection to abandoned cars! – to contact either Horsham District or West Sussex County Councils. If you have issues with any of the services that are NOT provided by the Parish Council as listed below, please call the relevant council provider direct and, also, please let our clerk know on 01903 812042 or email clerk@steyningpc.gov.uk so that we can monitor the response.
OVERHANGING VEGETATION/DRIVEWAYS WITHOUT DROPPED KERBS
If you notice some overhanging vegetation that is obscuring a highway or junction or a driveway that may not have the proper dropped kerb, please report it to West Sussex County Council . Click link below for more details
ROADS
All roads, paths and twittens are the responsibility of WSCC and you can report any road issues such as potholes, damaged signs, overhanging trees, overgrown hedges blocking twittens and paths etc.; direct to West Sussex County Council
ROAD SWEEPING/LITTER
Road sweeping is the responsibility of WSCC and will be done by machine approximately every 60 days. To supplement this service the Parish Council has employed its own sweeper/litter picker who primarily either sweeps or litter picks the High Street from Church Street to Mouse Lane, on a agreed schedule 7 days a week. In addition he litter picks or sweeps a few other roads, twittens and paths on a 1 or 2 times a week basis. These are: High Street/Jarvis lane to Church Street, footpath from Jarvis Lane to Church Street, Charlton Street (Whites) to junction of Mill Lane, Breach Close to Tanyard Lane, Elm Grove Lane, Tanyard Lane from junction with High Street and Shooting Field and Church Lane, twitten from Charlton Street to High Street car park and High Street, all play areas, access road to Fletchers Croft car park, access road (School Lane) to Steyning Centre. Any problems in these roads/paths/twittens should be reported to the Clerk on 01903 812042 or email clerk@steyningpc.gov.uk
Steyning would not be as litter free as it is without the support of our volunteer army of litter-pickers who unstintingly turn out in all weathers to do their bit for the community. If you would like to join this team then please contact the Clerk on 01903 812042 or email clerk@steyningpc.gov.uk
STREET/MPF LITTER AND DOG WASTE BINS
All High Street and other roadside litter and dog waste bins are the responsibility of WSCC. The litter bins in the MPF are the responsibility of the parish council.
STREET/PATH/TWITTEN LIGHTING
All street/path/twitten lighting is the responsibility of WSCC. Any defective lighting should be reported directly to WSCC on 0845 758 1622. It would be useful to have the the number of the lighting column to hand so that it can be identified quickly.
HOUSEHOLD BIN COLLECTIONS
Bin collections are the responsibility of Horsham District Council and if you have any problems with collections call 01403 739382
CAR PARKS
All the town car parks are the responsibility of HDC which includes lighting, litter and sweeping. Any problems call 01403 215100
OPEN SPACES/MONUMENTS/BUILDINGS
The Parish Council are responsible for the following open spaces:
Abbey Road, Chandlers Way (including the play area), Memorial Playing Field, South Ash play area, Norman Way basketball area, Fletchers Croft play area, The Clock Tower and clock, St Cuthman’s statue, Poem on the Stone, High Street bus shelter and toilets, the Steyning Centre, changing rooms on the Memorial Playing Fields, allotments at Rublees and Canada Gardens.
