Local Climate Projects
The Steyning, Bramber and Upper Beeding Climate Action Group, in partnership with Greening Steyning, is behind a wide range of local initiatives tackling climate change and building a stronger, greener community.
Repair Café
The monthly BN44 Repair Café offers free help fixing broken household items — from kettles and lamps to tools. It’s run by skilled local volunteers and promotes a “repair, don’t replace” culture. Over 1,000 items have been saved from landfill so far! Find out more here.
Community Fridge
Open twice a week at Church Cottage in Steyning, the Community Fridge redistributes surplus food that would otherwise go to waste. It’s open to everyone and has become a great hub for sharing food and cutting down on waste. Find out more here.
Tree Planting & Orchards
Through the Steyning For Trees campaign, hedgerows and fruit trees have been planted across the area to support wildlife and absorb carbon. Community orchards and wildflower areas are also springing up in local green spaces. Find out more here.
Nature Mapping
Local volunteers have surveyed habitats to help create an interactive map of local wildlife. The project supports better protection and connection of nature corridors across the area. Watch the video here.
Home Energy Help
Regular sessions offer free advice on making homes warmer and more energy efficient — from insulation tips to grants and retrofitting support. Helping households save money and cut carbon. Find out more here.
Climate Café
The monthly Climate Café is a friendly space to talk about climate issues, share ideas and get involved. Often includes guest speakers and opportunities to connect with others passionate about the planet. Find out more here.
Electric Vehicles & Active Travel
We’re working to make walking and cycling safer and more appealing, and have hosted events for people to test drive electric vehicles and e-bikes, making greener transport more accessible.
Green Day & Eco Open Houses
Held during the Steyning Festival, Green Day brings together eco stalls, fun activities and community demonstrations. Eco Open Houses let you see how neighbours are improving energy efficiency at home. Find out more here.
